This proposal for two million square feet of new development on 125th street was listed for Stage 2 development. The program is for mixed use including 500,000 square feet of big box retail, 750 residential units, a multiplex cinema, hotel, media production studios, and parking for city buses and building tenants.
The solution is dictated by the scale of the retail which requires a multi-tiered arrangement spanning two city blocks. The most active corner of the site is dedicated to the cinemas on 3rd Avenue, the hotel and restaurant. Just south of the corner is a grand staircase, nicknamed the Spanish Harlem Steps, that provides access to the upper retail, the media studios, cinema and residential courtyard above.
The project is highly visible from the numerous highways east of the site and will be a landmark and a cultural node to the eastern end of the revitalized 125th Street corridor and entertainment district.
